ADI Courses

ADI CoursesTo qualify as an ADI you need to pass all 3 parts of the course.

ADI Part 1

ADI Part 1 is totally theory based and you can train for this part of the course yourself.

There are driving schools that offer training for this part of the course, but we believe it is a waste of money. There's lots of material in the form of CD-Roms, DVD's and books, plus a wealth of information online that are all excellent.

Also a big part of being a driving instructor is the fact that you are 'on your own' so we believe learning this way helps with the next 2 parts of the course.

You can take the ADI Part 1 test at your nearest test centre. It's a 2 parts test, a computer based hazard perception test and a multiple choice test. You need to pass both parts to qualify.

We offer free help via phone and email for this part of the test.

Once you have successfully passed this part of the course you can move on to Part 2. Pleas bear in mind that you only have 2 years after passing Part 1 to complete Parts 2 & 3, otherwise you will need to take Part 1 again.

ADI Part 2

ADI Part 2 is a practical driving test.

Some people expect this to be similar to a standard driving test. This is not true, it's a very different test, it's far more thorough and you will need to show a very high standard of driving throughout the test in order to pass. The test lasts for approximately 1 hour and you are allowed only 6 minor faults and no major faults during that time.

You are also required to read a car number plate from 27.5 meters.

We provide training for this part of the test with our grade 6 instructors, ensuring you have the very best chance of passing the ADI Part 2 test.

ADI Part 3

ADI Part 3 tests your instructional ability. You can begin this part of the course once you have successfully passed part 2.

The ADI part 3 test lasts for about an hour and is broken down into two phases. During each phase the examiner will pretend to be a pupil. In phase 1 the examiner will take on the role of a learner driver on their first lesson. On phase 2, they will take on a totally new role, that of a driver that is almost ready for their driving test. For this part of the test you will need to identify their faults and sohw that you can advise them how to correct these faults.

At the end of the test the examiner will take a few minutes to assess the session and then give you the result. He will mark areas such as:

You will be graded from 1 to 6 for each phase of the test. Scoring 1,2,or 3 is a fail, scoring 4,5 or 6 is a pass. You must pass both parts (grade 4 or higher) to pass the ADI Part 3 test.

ADI Part 3 is regarded by many as the most difficult part of the programme and has a high national failure rate. We believe that with the right training, ADI Part 3 is relatively straightforward. Our grade 6 driving instructors know exactly what is required on the day, after all they've passed with flying colours themselves!
